A gym that knows your name! I love it, I love it, I love it… A total surprise to me as I’ve always said no way to a gym.

“I became a member at the end of January after a recurrence of a painful lower back which meant that for a week I couldn’t even stand for more than a couple of minutes.
Previously I’d been a regular gym user and cyclist, but the Pandemic and then a knee injury gradually led to less and less activity and a marked drop off of fitness. Despite my attempts to get going again nothing seemed to work. I needed to rehabilitate and wanted to get myself sorted after this latest “bad back” episode, so with the gym upstairs oriented to my generation and recovering from injury, I was motivated to start at Ady Watts.
I am back to cycling short distances on the road and can feel, and see, the benefits: I am better able to cope with outdoor activities, chores and gardening. Best of all, I look forward to my sessions, working through my programme on my own or training on the Wattbike.”
“Life however can sometimes show you another way. Illness and age is not always one’s friend. I became aware that I was gradually losing my strength which has always been important to me.
My routine of yoga, pilates, hiking and dog agility didn’t cut it anymore. I was drawn to an Ady Watts gym advert on Facebook emphasising strength training but it took a promise of wine ( wine tasting evening in this case as this gym has monthly social events planned) and sponsorship from a friend who is a member here. I will always be grateful.
The instructors are key. I learn from each and every one of them. They all have these traits in common; a unique ability to inject humour into what is a serious business of perfecting one’s techniques not to injure oneself. When you get it right, it feels right too. To believe in yourself which is massive for motivation and to share their knowledge so you understand how your body works. They encourage, guide and support you whether you are in a class of max 6 or less even 1. I think I work so hard because they do too. Their philosophy seems to be about everyone living their best life whether you are working towards a challenge, recovering from an injury or improving your ability to perform an everyday task.
My body has responded so well too. I do feel strong, upright, confident; more like my younger self. Exploring my edges, pushing boundaries has been a delightful experience. But I still haven’t had that wine!
Thank you all.”
